Iowa Youth Chorus is a nonprofit organization with a mission to enrich the lives of Iowa Children and adults through choral music. This year, Iowa Youth Chorus has over 350 choristers enrolled, ages 6-18 (representing 131 different schools in Central Iowa) in our central location at The Temple for Performing Arts, as well as at our four Satellite locations. We offer six choir levels to meet the individual needs of talented and interested young musicians.

The individuals we serve will flourish as part of an internationally acclaimed organization that inspires personal development, celebrates diversity and fosters international goodwill. As advocates for the performing arts, we are partners with our community and with the world.

The ensembles of Iowa Youth Chorus strive to:

• Bring together the areas finest young vocal musicians who wish to develop and broaden their talents and opportunities
• Promote cross-cultural awareness and appreciation by hosting international choral festivals and through student tours, performances, workshops and internationally- acclaimed choral competitions
• Promote choral excellence through developing music audiation, literacy, theory, and analysis as well as vocal development, linguistic skills, and sensitivity to text.
• Create unique performance opportunities for children not found elsewhere.
• Perform the best of choral music from a variety of periods, styles, and origins.
• Foster character traits of persistence, honesty, responsibility, stamina, courage and self-discipline among choristers.
• Develop a desire for excellence among choristers reflected in promptness, positive attitude, concentration, cooperation, accuracy, and support for one another.
• Become a microcosm of Central Iowa youth with choristers representing all social, cultural, economic and geographic strata and therefore becoming a positive force for human understanding and relationships.
• Carry the choral art to the people of Central Iowa, adding to the quality of life, increasing awareness and appreciation of music, and strengthening the reputation of Central Iowa as a center for the arts.
• Support and encourage, not duplicate and compete with, choral organizations for children in schools and churches.
• Develop a deep love for music.
